This international award winning, socially responsible Bicycle Tour in Masiphumelele, Kommetjie is a new take on township tours, providing guests the opportunity to meet and interact with the local community from a bicycle seat.
Experience it
A local qualified guide will escort guests around the township, visiting interesting places and explaining Xhosa customs. A highlight of the tour is traditional dancing by the Sangoma (African traditional healer) and a visit to the local preschool (weekdays only). Enjoy tea or lunch in an African home.

A highlight of the tour is to visit a pre-school where enthusiastic teacher's work under very difficult circumstances. Be sure to keep any problems for the Sangoma, the traditional healer to solve.

Responsible Community Based Tourism:
This Bicycle tourism programme facilitates the importation of discarded second-hand bicycles to South Africa, where they have helped set up and provide ongoing support to locally owned bicycle workshops, training & employing members of the local community to renovate bikes for the Bicycle Tours. As a result of the work, a local lady has been assisted in setting up her own restaurant providing further income for the community.
Requirements
Hat, sunscreen, rain jacket (just in case), closed shoes, comfortable clothes for cycling; bring your camera but please don’t bring sweets or treats for the kids.
