The Mountain House in Clovelly , Cape Town, was built in early 2007. This delicate, contemporary style self catering house exploits its majestic perch to the full, with sea views and valley vistas spread before the lucky guest like a scrumptious smorgasbord of Nature’s diverse riches.
To the east gleams Fish Hoek’s sandy crescent beach and the azure waters of False Bay where whales can be spied disporting themselves during the calving season from July to November; to the south, the Swartkop Mountains ring historic Simon’s Town and across the Fish Hoek valley Elsie’s craggy Peak dominates the skyline; to the west lie the verdant fairways of Clovelly Country Club with Chapman’s Peak in the distance.
Accommodation
Your initial impression on entering The Mountain House will be of a Zen-like stillness, a sense of airy calm inspired by a lofty ceiling, picture windows, a restful colour scheme and understated furnishings.
The main bedroom, with its queen size bed, ample cupboards and dressing table, is entered by a delicate sliding screen, and the theme of unusual portals is continued in the glass paneled door that separates it from the luxurious en-suite bathroom – the glass itself was fused around stalks of restios, an indigenous Cape reed growing in the garden.
There is also a second bedroom with two single beds and its own en-suite. In the spacious, light filled living area there are two custom-made day beds which work well as two singles and ideal for the kids.
There is a seamless flow from the living area, via sliding folding doors, to a balau timber deck designed to take full advantage of the spectacular Clovelly sunsets that make sundowners time of day at The Mountain House extra special.
