Depart from Simon's Town and paddle the warm waters of False Bay and we'll show you some rather amazing things. No experience is necessary and it's no more taxing than hiking up a hill.
Penguin Sea Kayak Trip
One of the most unique places in the world - a penguin colony in suburban Cape Town! And the best way to see it is from the water.
The trip leaves from Simon's Town Waterfront and we paddle past the Naval Harbour and out to Boulder's Beach to see the penguins. On the way we will normally encounter a number of Cape Fur seals resting in kelp beds or next to the harbour wall. If the time and tide is right we will stop on a beach for a swimming break and will generally be able to get a close up look at penguins on the rocks nearby.
Our double kayaks are very stable and perfect for those with no paddling experience and children from about 10 years and up are allowed. This is a trip every able bodied individual can and should do.
The daily scheduled trip is 2 hours long and leaves at 09h00 in winter season and 08h30 in summer season. The weather is generally better in the morning but groups of 4 or more can book an afternoon trip (via email) if it is more convenient.
Departure times:
- Winter: 09h00
- Summer: 08h30
Duration: 2 hours
Requirements
Shorts or a swimming costume, T-shirt, hat and sandals (preferably not flip-flops). Sunglasses and suncream recommended. You will probably get splashed so always bring a towel and a change of clothes for afterwards.
Cost: R350 per person
Please Note:
- All trips are weather dependent - always call in the morning before you leave for your trip to check the weather.
- If the trip is cancelled we try to get you on the next day if you can make it.
- Note that a rainy day is not necessarily 'bad weather' - a windy day is more likely to cancel a trip.
