With Spring well and truly with us, there is no better time than now to clear those winter cobwebs and get out into nature.
Locations
There are 3 tented camps on the Cape Peninsula, each one with its own own character and charm – showcasing the various natural microcosms of the area.
Smitswinkel – Cape Point
Situated just 300 m from the entrance to Cape Point and 800 m from Smitswinkel Bay, the Smitswinkel camp is located within a weathered flowering gum tree plantation. If you want more glam in your glamping, this camp is for you as its the only one of the three that offers ensuite bathrooms and an attached mini-kitchen. Day time excursions include a trip down to Cape Point or a visit to the Cape Point Ostrich farm, a 10 minute drive down the road.
Slangkop – Kommetjie
Under the watchful eye of the tallest lighthouse in South Africa, the Slangkop camp, located in the sleepy seaside village of Kommetjie is perfect for those who want to do a bit of glamping by the sea. Located within the milkwood trees, the camp offers something unique, a path that links directly to a well-maintained boardwalk that hugs the coastline to Kommetjie beach. We highly recommend a tour of the 134-foot tall lighthouse (a separate activity), which is open from Monday to Friday.
Orangekloof – Hout Bay
We saved the best for last, can you image glamping surrounded by an ancient Afromontane Forest, an indigenous forest, endemic to the South Western Cape. Located in the Orange Kloof valley, just on the other side of Constantia Nek near Hout Bay, this camp offers the same experience as the others with the addition of a four sleeper tent which is great for families. For a day excursion, we recommend a few of the mountain trails in the area that start from the camp.
Accommodation
Tents
Each camp can accommodate a maximum of 12 guests in 2 sleeper (One 4-sleeper tent at Orangekloof). The “tents” are permanent structures, with canvas interiors . They are luxurious with thick mattresses in two or four-bed structures, constructed from alien vegetation harvested from within the park.
Bathrooms
Bathrooms are communal except at Smitswinkel which offers en-suite bathrooms. All Camps have hot water.
Kitchen
All camps offer fully equipped self-catering communal kitchens and dining areas. Smitswinkel offers small kitchenette in each individual tent.
