One of the newest editions to the Cape Town market scene, this market has about 100 stalls of craft, clothing and food.
Located in Hout Bay Harbour in a big old warehouse (drive past Mariners Wharf and the first harbour entrance, where you can get a boat to seal island, and turn left at the 2nd entrance).
The market is in an old fish factory but is a mixture of rustic maritime with some funky decor from a tree stump chandelier to pink velvet lined ceilings in the ladies, with a stiletto heel as the door handle. As you walk in there is a row of African crafts, curios and traders.
Heading further in there are various stalls of clothes (hats, dresses), jewellery, homeware and decor items. The communal tables overlap with the food and drink section and whilst this market is most definitely not all about food – the dining section has certainly made an impact. There is a vast selection of beverages from good coffees (Bean There Coffee) to craft beers and Naked drinks (cocktails!) and Mr Juice.
Food wise you can grab everything from pies to pancakes, from Chinese to falafels and satays. There are oysters and pies, there’s crayfish on the braai and flame grilled organic lamb sandwiches. There is a very convivial atmosphere with lots of meeting and greeting, Hi’s and Byes amidst the eating, drinking and shopping.
